There is a curious romantic cat purring around the big screens in Argentina in a stereoscopic 3D avatar. The pursuit of Gaturro the cat trying to impress Agatha, the girl of his dreams continues in the first Latin American 3D animation film Gaturro. Produced by Kerala based Toonz animation India & Illusion studios, Argentina.
The production of the film was done entirely by Toonz Animation India right from layouts, character animation, 3D special effects to lighting, rendering and final compositing, executed for the stereo 3D experience.The characters in the film lent themselves creatively to the 3D medium and the story called for very dynamic camera movements which could be achieved only in 3D.
The difficulty perse is more of handling huge number of characters in the final scenes where the marriage of the protagonist takes place. Each scene was like doing the entire process for at least 25 time. The attendee's crowd for the marriage was huge which was unprecedented.
Maya was used for all the 3D work, Combustion for compositing and Photoshop for texturing and matte paintings. The production of this film took about 15months and around 300 artists to make it happen across studios.
The Oscar winning Voltage Pictures will be releasing the film world wide and in India Toonz is targeting a January 2011.
